Nurse Salary: Wondering How Much You Will Make as a Nurse?
Have you heard that the nursing profession is booming and you are now considering becoming a nurse? If so, you might be looking to find out how much you can expect to make as a nurse. I have conducted Nurse Salary research myself and found the only thing that I could find was not enough information. The following Nurse Salary information is based on the average salary in my area and the closest larger towns of Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky. The information is averages based on numerous employers that I have spoken with regarding wages. This information is only to give you an idea of what you can expect to make starting out as a nurse.
LPN's
If you are an LPN in addition to just graduated, you can expect your Nurse Salary at most Nursing Homes to start at about $14 per hour. Experienced LPN's will usually get a one time of $1. 50 if over 2 years experience or say 15 cents per year experience with a 5 year max. Just to clarify, a Nurse with 5 years experience could expect their Nurse Salary to start at about $14. 6-16 per hour first shift. Second and third shift often have a per hour shift differential of fifty cents to two dollars per hour depending on the need in the area. This means that if you start at $16 per hour, you may be able to get a two dollar per hour shift differential putting you up to $18 per hour. In case you were wondering, the average yearly raise is about fifty cents.
Hospital LPN's can expect their Nurse Salary to be about $13 per hour with 15 cents extra per year of experience, again usually leading out at 5 years. The main here is the shift differential is usually greater and I have found that second or third shift LPN's can expect to make $1-2 more per hour in shift differential and an extra dollar on top of that for weekend work.
Nurses who work in a Doctors office can expect their Nurse Salary to be about $12 per hour with very little if any added on for experience. This pay is roughly the same for urgent care centers as well. I have found that yearly raises are usually a little bit higher, about sixty cents per year for those working in these types of settings.
RN's
I have not conducted as much research on Registered Nurse Salary since i have am currently in school for my RN and working as an LPN. I do know that RN's that I know have started out about! 1 7-20 per hour in the Nursing Home regarding $17 per hour in the hospital. Nurses with experience can make several dollars more per hour especially those in specialty departments like the ER and the ICU.
Whatever you are preparing to do, if you truly love working with people then you should enjoy the Nursing profession. I recommend not doing it for the money however because the pay may sound good but you will not find success if it is not something that you wish to do.
